"The room was nice and relaxing"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Lothian Birth Centre

(as the patient),

I went into labour on my own the morning of my induction date which i was over the moon about. I wasn’t sure if it was actual labour or not as my first child i was induced so i was so glad i got to experience natural labour.

I went into the Royal early in the morning. I was in triage for a short space of time before being taken to a wee side room for observations. I was asked what type of birth i wanted and i said i wanted to try water , i was lucky enough to have a space in the Lothian birthing centre. Then i was taken to my room and it was lovely and calming. My midwife was only with me a short space of time as she was close to finishing but she mainly done my paper work and made the room cosy for me, got me relaxed. The room was nice and relaxing and i loved it, the quotes on the walls were good to read throughout my labour .

When  it turned 8am i got two midwives, one was qualified and one was a student doing her 3rd year. They were lovely and with me through the full day of my labour. I gave birth at 4pm on the dot. My midwives were with me all day and made my experience calm and quiet, it was good.

I have to say i couldn’t fault my time in there. I spent that night in, never got much sleep due to the other lady over from me snoring, but my stay itself was good. The midwives were always around and i felt cared for, if i needed something they would get me it. I don’t plan on having any more children but if i was to ever have any i would hope i could go to the birthing centre.

Dear demi7.

many congratulations on the birth of your lovely baby, I hope you and your family are well.

Thank you for taking time out to post this amazing feedback especially when you have a new arrival and a busy time of year.

We are delighted that you found the room to be up to your wishes for a birthing environment. The empowerment statements are a reflection of the amazing inner strengths we are privileged to witness while the miracle of birth takes place. We are glad it helped a little in you and your babies birthing experience.

I will ensure the sentiments are passed onwards to the staff involved.

Thank you again and may we wish you and your family all the best for the future and of course happy festivities.

much love

your birth centre xx
