"Navigating to the unit is difficult"

About: Outpatients Services / Eye Outpatients diagnostic unit [EODU]

(as a relative),

My wife has very poor vision, navigating to EODU on her own is difficult, poor signage, obscure location, no printed instructions . Within what appears to be one building there are multiple lifts with different numbers for what appears to be the same floor. It would be better to knock it all down and start again from scratch on a new site. Could be a lot better. Try.

Dear alphafd93

My name is Kevin Patterson I am the Facilitator for Patient and Client Experience for the Belfast Trust, I also manage the Front of House Reception in the Main Foyer.

I want to first apologies for you experience when attending the Royal Victoria Hospital and the difficulty in getting to your appointment.

I know that signage is an ongoing issue and navigating the Royal can be difficult, there have been ongoing developments to try and improve signage and directions within the Royal Victoria Hospital site. We have introduced a few improvements such as Digital Signage at the Main Foyer and improved signage along the main corridor which is yellow to ensure that visitors and patient with visual impairments can read these with lesser difficulty.

The Front of House team are there from 8am to 8pm to offer assistance and directions to all visitors and patients. They are also able to order porters and contact wards/departments if needed.

There are also volunteers located within the Foyer who help those patient/visitors who may need a guide to walk them to their appointment. We are continually looking to better improve the patient experience and if you wish to offer any feedback please contact me on the following email address PatientExperience@belfasttrust.hscni.net.

Many thanks

Kevin Patterson
