"Totally put me at ease"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

Just wanted to put people’s minds at rest about hysteroscopy and polypectomy procedures. I initially had to go to Stepping Hill hospital for a Hysteroscopy after an abnormal ultrasound scan.  I read up on the procedure and literally made myself ill with anxiety of horror stories I had read online. Many people calling the procedure barbaric etc.

I arrived to my appointment and was greeted by Tina (specialist Hysteroscopist) she immediately put me at ease, had a really good chat to me and reassured me.  Whilst having the procedure she really put me at ease, talking me through everything she was doing.  Honestly it was over with really quickly. I was given a heat pack for my tummy before the procedure and gas & air (didn’t need to use it) the whole procedure wasn’t too bad at all and honestly wasn’t painful, more like period cramping.

Afterwards Tina explained she had seen a small Polyp that needed removing.  Again she talked me through it and told me I would be booked in to come back for that procedure.

Within 2 weeks I received an appointment for a Polypectomy with Myosure. I arrived and again was really nervous, she spotted me in the waiting room and came to chat to me. She put me at ease once again! She had finished her shift but told me she would come into the theatre room whilst I had the procedure done. She sat with me throughout and took my mind off it.

Dr Kamran performed the Polyp removal and again was brilliant with me. She explained everything, and totally put me at ease.  She said if needed I could have a general anaesthetic if I wanted or found it too painful. I’m so glad I didn’t have one. I was given gas & air which I used a small amount of to relax me. A local anaesthetic was also used on the cervix. The whole procedure was quick and being honest wasn’t too bad. It was slightly painful for literally a few seconds, but more so  uncomfortable. On a pain scale of 0-10 I would say it was 2/3 so if anyone is worrying, please don’t!

Honestly don’t read online horror stories. Tina, Dr Kamran and the other staff were all fantastic and a credit to the Jasmine suite at Stepping Hill Hospital.

Good morning,

Thank you for sharing your feedback about your recent visit to Jasmine ward.

I have shared this with the team who respond to say:

“Thank you for taking the time to share your positive experience of care in the hysteroscopy clinic.

I understand that attending hysteroscopy appointments can be quite daunting and I was pleased to read that the care you received from all staff was reassuring and supportive.

We really appreciate your lovely feedback and will share within the team.

We do hope you are recovering well.”

I too am pleased to read that the procedure was a successful one. We do appreciate you sharing your feedback as it not only helps the teams to hear when patients have a positive experience, but it will also help other people who may be worried and provide some reassurance.

Kind regards,

Aoife Isherwood
