"Lack of support for autistic patients"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital / Urology

(as a service user),

In my experience, this hospital is absolutely appalling if you have even the most rudimentary of needs as an autistic patient without learning difficulties.

Was referred to urology. I asked for confirmation of an appointment as a lack of information and certainty causes anxiety and distress. They were unable to provide this.

Near 8-month wait before I was contacted for an appointment, which I think is a disgrace and a contravention of the NHS Constitution (patient legal right to access referral to treatment within 18 weeks).

Communication has been utterly abysmal and I believe serious improvements need to be made when engaging with autistic patients with specific needs.

I ended up waiting 8 months for news of an appointment and then becoming so angry and disgusted with subsequent poor communication that I lost all faith and trust in their actual competence, never mind reliability and consistency. Both of which were sadly lacking.

I decided to discharge myself as I have standards and self-respect.
