"They explained everything very clearly"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Radiology (X-ray)

(as the patient),

I arrived in plenty of time for my appointment, but the carpark was full, with cars waiting to park blocking all roads in it. I travelled from Bude; there is not a viable public transport alternative. I phoned Radiology reception to say I would be late and the person I spoke to was very helpful and said that I should complain. Hence this feedback. The upper overflow carpark appears now to be inaccessible. I was delayed at least 15 minutes.

Once in the DXA Scan unit, both Karl and Vicky were excellent. They explained everything very clearly and listened to my comments. After the frustration of finding a parking space, it was a most pleasant experience.

Maybe a calming landscape picture on the ceiling above the pillow would have given me something to look at during the scan and help me keep still. Otherwise everything was excellent.

I am a Diagnostic Radiographer with many years experience of working, and imaging patients, in all areas of the Radiology department. I am also responsible for the governance in Radiology and so make sure that we are compliant with the many ionising radiation regulations that dictate what we can and can't do in radiology, keep the patients and staff safe and ensure we are practicing safely. I also deal with our policies and procedures and oversee compliments, complaints and quality.

Dear cepheushf54,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback following your DXA scan. I'm sorry that you had problems parking as I know how frustrating and stressful this can be when you have travelled a long way and are concerned that you will be late for an appointment, although thank you for calling the reception to let them know.

Unfortunately the hospital is extraordinarily busy at the moment but I will escalate your feedback about the issues parking so thank you for highlighting it.

I'm pleased that once you arrived in the hospital for your scan the experience was a pleasant one and I will pass your kind comments onto Karl and Vicky, who will be very pleased to receive them.

Kind regards

Gill
