"Very fortunate to have this service"

About: Community Services - Eastern / Speech and Language Therapy Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Plastic surgery

(as the patient),

Acquired Bell’s palsy August 2023. Eventually referred to Pastic surgeon at RD&E.  Bell’s palsy seems to be an orphan condition - not coming under the remit of any particular department.

Luckily RD&E have a recently formed facial palsy clinic looked after by plastic surgery. Progress monitored and able to see SLT regularly for help with facial exercises etc to help improve outcome.

After a time also able to have Botox injections to help relax the over tightened muscles in my face. I realise from talking with other sufferers of facial palsy (whatever the cause) that we are very fortunate in Devon to have this service.

I have particularly valued the support of the speech and language therapist and her willingness to do research and reach out to colleagues in other health districts for treatment plans etc

Dear earmarkjk84

Thank you so much for taking the time to give us your feedback, I'm very pleased to hear that you've found the facial palsy service helpful.

Dayna has worked really hard to develop the service - clarifying what's available across the region, researching the latest evidence, identifying the knowledge and skills that speech and language therapists need and how best to develop them, producing a guideline for the team, the list goes on...!

Knowing that she's making a positive difference will validate all her efforts, she'll be delighted when I pass your comments on.

Thank you again, and wishing you well for your continued recovery
