"No Parking"

About: Omagh Primary Care Complex / Adult Mental Health Services Tyrone and Fermanagh Hospital / Elm Ward

(as a service user),

I recently attended Dr Sheehan in Erne house, Omagh. On arrival I could see there was No parking space available. Due to this and not wanting to be late for my appointment I had No alternative but to park on the Grass. I had traveled from outside Enniskillen in order to be seen by Dr Sheehan for therapy. After attended my appointment I tryed to leave but my car got stuck on the Grass and was unable to go anywhere.

I paniced and this caused me a lot of distress, I went back to Erne house to inform Dr Sheehan of the incident. Dr Sheehan came out to myself to view the situation. I phoned the recovery service who informed me that it would be 4 to 5 hours before they could get to me as they were some distance away.

I was very distressed and Dr Sheehan offered me a bottle of water and told me that I could go to the Hospital canteen to get some lunch. This was something that I ended up do and it took me 10 to 15 minutes to walk on icey pavements to Omagh Hospital. Dr Seehan also offered me the waiting room but this would have made me feel uncomfortable as other patients would be there and also as I did not have an appointment.

Ater a 3 hour wait and walking 10 to 15 minutes on Icey pavements the recovery service arrived and after a further 15 minutes I was ready to go. I wish to inform that this is a regular occcurance and it is not the first time I have had to park on the Grass due to lack of parking at Erne house Omagh.

Dr Sheehan contacted me by phone to check in with me to see that I had arrived home safe and sound. Dr Sheehan was busy as she had a meeting but still took her time to support me and to see what help she could offer.

Dear hscott586,

I am very sorry you had this experience during your visit to Erne House. I can fully understand how stressful this must have been for you.

I will certainly follow this matter up with my colleagues in Erne House to explore if there are ways to alleviate the parking situation you have been encountering.

Many thanks.

Brian Toner

Hello Hscott586,

My name is Michelle Scott, Patient Client Experience Lead for the Western Trust.

My apologies in the delay responding back. I was liaising with the team in Erne House, and spoke with senior management to highlight your feedback, which we both thank you for taking the time to do.

I was saddened to read of your distress due to parking and was glad to know and delighted that Dr Sheehan was supportive to you during that time.

I am sorry that it was not clear about location of overflow parking. There is additional parking at the front of Erne House as well as the Omagh centre. We appreciate however Erne House is an additional walk to and from the Omagh Centre. I have been assured that senior managers are working on an information leaflet/ poster that will be made available for visitors/ patients/ carers/ clients which we hope will be more informative for people accessing services.

We do hope that if you are continuing treatment in Erne house that you will have a more positive parking experience during your next visit.

Thank you for your time and best wishes

Michelle Scott
