"Parking for disabled and blue badge holders"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

We came to the orthopaedic unit to find that there are only 6 parking spots. There should be more. I am not sure where. I am unfortunately a frequent visitor to the hospital.

The hospital is the best in the country. I have lived all over. Please keep up the good work.

I am responsible for monitoring overall service delivery, and the day to day running of both departments. I work closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Therapists, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, Orthopaedic Practitioners and Nursing staff to ensure cohesive care is delivered. I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff, who work extremely hard to ensure patient safety is maintained, and that clinics run as smoothly as possible.

Dear Alimpgs,

I am so sorry to hear that you have experienced issues with the disabled parking facilities in the Orthopaedic end of the Hospital.

Hopefully your comment will be seen, and picked up by someone in the car parking division. I am however, very pleased to hear that you rate the RDUH highly - especially as you have experienced other Hospitals over the country!

Kind regards,

Julia King

Clinical Nurse Manager

PEOC OPD & Fracture clinic.

Dear Alimpgs,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.

Your comments have been forwarded to Alison Knowlton, Trust Travel and Car Parking Manager, who has asked me to relay the following response:

‘Thank you for your feedback regarding parking for blue badge holders at the Princess Orthopaedic Centre (PEOC), Wonford Hospital.

As you say, there are 6 parking spaces directly outside the entrance which patients and visitors with a blue badge may park in for free, having registered their blue badge at the reception, PEOC or on line at the APCOA Blue Badge portal.

Patients and Visitors with a valid blue badge may park in any patients and visitor car park for free across the site as well as the blue badge designated spaces. Unfortunately, due to the hospital being a city centre hospital, it is landlocked and therefore additional parking is not able to be put in place for staff, patients and visitors with or without a blue badge. We are however, looking at removing some of the existing spaces in the main patient and visitor car park to provide some more dedicated spaces for blue badge holders. When a review of parking around the PEOC takes place, of course, there will be consideration for further dedicated blue badge parking.’

Once again, thank you for providing your feedback.

Kind regards,

Michael
