Our little boy had an assessment for ADHD. I say little he is 10 :). He asked for the assessment himself and all through the assessment it was clear that his voice was really important. Although he talked a lot, his view was listened to and the report shows that he was heard.
As a parent, I wasn't sure I wanted him to have an assessment, I didn't want him to have a label but I knew that it could help us to understand his behaviour and ensure that he gets the right support as he does his SATS and moves up to Secondary School.
The only thing I would say that would help us as parents and help my little boy would be maybe an additional session after the feedback appointment. We'd all like to know more about ADHD and what it is. We are waiting for a post diagnostic appointment so maybe that will be discussed there. We were given loads of links to websites that have been helpful and the report gives us and school some top tips but having someone sit and explain it to you considering the areas that have been highlighted specific to your child would really help.
I cant thank the Practitioner that supported us enough. Her kindness was really appreciated.
