"Help for sick toddler"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

My toddler was vomiting repeatedly and couldn't keep down food or fluids. We called 111 & the Dr told us to take him to A&E as they could give him an anti-nausea medicine to help him rehydrate.

After 4.5 hours of waiting, we had only been spoken to by a student nurse who had no idea why we were there and who would not listen when we said he was refusing both water and juice.

Dear sigmahq96,

Thank you for reaching out and feeding back about your son's experience of care within our Emergency Department.

I was so very sorry to read of your concerns. Having a small child who is unwell is exceptionally worrying. I sincerely apologise that you did not feel listened to by our team member.

If acceptable to you, I'd like to review what happened to your little boy in more detail. If this is something you are willing to help us with, please do email me directly: coral.mcgowan@nhs.scot and I will be able to look into this for you.

Because of your feedback we can reflect on how we can make future attendances for other patients a more positive event, you have really helped. Thank you.

I hope your little boy is much better now.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Sending best wishes

Coral
