"Ward was clean warm and very well organised"

About: Western General Hospital / Emergency Surgical Admissions Western General Hospital / Radiology

(as the patient),

3 days ago I phoned my local GP and after a phone call with  the doctor she requested i called in to the surgery.  After an examination she advise me to go to hospital and she would call and make me an appointment.

A Few hours later I was on my way to the western general hospital. .after several hours in a very small, uncomfortable and dull waiting room, a very polite nurse called my name , I got to a exam room one nurse took my details and my symptoms whilst the other was taking bloods. I had to go back to the dull waiting area for another few hours wait.

Then a doctor came and called me very politely introduced herself ,she verified my symptoms and examined me, told me there was a problem with the wait time on blood test results and then asked if I wouldn't mind going back to the waiting area till the results came back.

After a short while a different doctors called my name and again politely introduced himself and asked me to come through to an examination bed. After his examination he advised a ct scan to confirm his thoughts..

After another lengthy wait I was admitted to ward 57 by now it was very late evening, as I have sleep apnea i was told a cpap machine was not available at that time of night I had to get my own one from home brought in to me to use a cheerful porter arrived with a wheelchair to take me to ward 57 .

As I had been sitting all day I asked if I could walk he took my bag and said we will take the wheelchair just in case as it was a bit far to ward 57. He walked at my pace and we had a cheerful chat long the way.

As it was now close to midnight I was now exhausted and sore . I was hooked up to an Iv drip and left to sleep, at around 1am I was awoken and told my ct scan was ready the nurse un hooked my drip. My friendly porter arrived again this time I sat in the chair and was also escorted by a nurse.

The ct scan was done by very polite and professional staff . Back in the ward my sleep was broken by the comings and goings of staff doing their duties for which I have no complaints. I woke in the morning to a whirlwind of staff doing what they do best.

When the doctor came round he had a diagnosis and what was to happen, he explained to me in a way I could understand what was wrong and what was going to happen to fix the problem.

I felt completely at ease and confident about my care. I was in the ward for 2 nights i was looked after and cared for both by day and by night by a incredible team , there was joking and fun to help take your mind off why I was there.

Ward 57 was clean warm and very well organised.. I can't thank them enough
