My mum went for a colonoscopy well over a month ago and a large polyp was found. A biopsy was taken and an MRI arranged to see if it could be removed. Results were said to be back within a week. At the time the colonoscopy doctor didn't seem concerned about the polyp, the MRI followed a few days later. Excellent. A week later my mum attended a pre arranged appointment and was told the results weren't back yet but the doctor who was in this appointment (not the colonoscopist) said they couldn't say for certain whether the polyp was benign or not. Which, as you can imagine, has caused concern. The polyp has been sent to the complex polyp team in ARI. My mum had been told the results would be back soon and she continued to phone to be told they weren't back yet. Two weeks ago she phoned and the results were back but the doctor hadn't looked at them yet. The secretary had said that she would put a prompt for the doctor to look at it quickly so that my mum could be told whether or not the results of the biopsy were sinister or not. My mum has since phoned multiple times and the secretary (who has been so fantastic and understanding) has said that the doctor has still not looked at the results. It has now been two weeks since we know the results have been back and we are no further forward. As I'm sure you can understand this is an incredibly anxious and distressing time for my mum and our whole family. My mum is known to mental health services due to anxiety and this is exacerbating symptoms majorly.I appreciate that there is a current backlog and the NHS is under a lot of pressure and strain, but the fact the results are back and there is no communication from the doctor concerned is really disappointing. My mum has tried phoning her GP to get an update but has been told by various members of NHS staff that they may not be allowed to pass on/access this information. The team are aware of the impact this is having on my mum's mental health and so we are finding all of this quite difficult. I appreciate procedures etc are on a waiting list (my mum had to wait two years for the colonoscopy in the first place), but I'm not sure where getting results falls under? Any help to move forward would be greatly appreciated as well as some acknowledgement how these particular waiting times for results are going to be impacting people's mental health
