"Extremely messed around by this service"

About: Sexual Health Services - South Staffordshire (Open Clinic)

(as a service user),

I have been extremely messed around when trying to use this service for an implant fitting.

I was referred for an implant fit from my GP due to being on weight loss injections and my oral contraception not currently working. I attended for my appointment after booking time off work to spend an hour sat in my appointment and be turned away. The nurse told me I couldn’t have the implant as my weight loss injections would stop working and it is a medication that conflicts with the implant according to their guidelines. I was extremely upset as had already been told by my Gp that this is the route I needed to go down. I was basically told to come back once I had lost the weight I needed to.

I spoke to a pharmacist colleague at my work who extensively looked into all guidelines and said there is no conflict between the medications. I then phoned back the open clinic who booked me a call with 2 contraceptive nurses. After a half an hour phone call they also advised they’re unsure why the nurse sent me away as they also couldn’t see anything as I had explained. They then booked me on with a doctor at the clinic for another appointment who could look into the guidelines again and give it to me if able to.

Today is the day of the appointment and one hour before I had to leave for it they phoned and cancelled stating the GP wasn’t in today. I was offered one day to rebook into but I couldn’t do this date as I am on holiday. I was told after this to keep phoning up and try to gain a cancellation as this wasn’t their job to.

I have now had 2 days off work to come to the clinic and a half an hour phone call during work. I have phoned the main switchboard for every other clinic who said the next appointment is an hour and a half away and in March. This is not good enough, being told different facts by each clinician when even working within the same clinic and service.
