While camping I managed to snap the ligament in my right ring finger at the top. The tip of the finger flopped and would not straighten no matter how much I tried to lift it using the muscles in my hand.
The X-ray in Fortwilliam showed that the ligament had broken and a small piece of bone had pulled away from the knuckle.
The nurse taped on a plastic cradle and it stayed on for 8 weeks. When it was removable for washing you had to be extremely careful to support the finger keeping it horizontally supported at all times.
After 8 weeks the cradle was removed at GP surgery and I was referred to the OT dept in PRI for hand therapy.
I was introduced to Asna an OT who specialises in hand therapy. She was very professional. She listened, looked at X-rays , took a considerable amount of time to show me the exact exercises to do over the next 4 weeks. She also related that to my own personal interests and explained how I should go about my activities of swimming & gardening.
She was delighted with my progress after the 4 weeks and I was discharged.
