"Risk to my Husband"

About: Whiston Hospital / Respiratory medicine

(as other),

My husband had been in hospital for a number of weeks profoundly poorly. He received very good care most of the time except for a few occasions when the care and response from nursing staff was to say the least appalling. Eventually he was discharged, but sadly readmitted a couple of weeks later onto 2D from resus.

From the moment he entered this ward, his care, monitoring,  medication (dosage, times etc), professionalism, work ethic and several other aspects concerning the nursing staff on the ward was, in my opinion, disgraceful and nigh on negligent.  Even after raising concerns about only 1 qualified (agency) nurse (on their own)  and 1 auxiliary to cope with 27 patients on night shifts, some extremely ill like my husband, there was no change or effort to rectify this.  I hand on my heart felt my husband's life was in danger of a night the whole week he was in there.

Thanks for your reply but. I feel it would be absolutely futile contacting PALS, as I did raise my concerns with them and had no response. I feel the staff on some wards close ranks making it unlikely that anything reported directly to them is passed on or acted upon either. As prior to contacting PALS, I had raised concerns and made a complaint about the care my husband was given. Again.. nothing was done and nothing rectified.
