I injured my lower back a few weeks ago, which was very painful and limited my mobility. After returning from a week's holiday abroad, my condition had only slightly improved and I was concerned about long-term damage to my back and also my knees, as I felt that I was putting additional pressure on other joints.
I contacted my GP practice (Bishopton Health Centre) at the end of November, requesting a Physiotherapy appointment and was given a very prompt date for the start December. My consultation was with a very helpful Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) who checked my posture and flexibility before offering practical advice and signposting me to some Lower Back exercise videos on the NHSGGC internet. I now have an exercise plan in place, without having a prolonged wait to see a Physio, and am already feeling the benefit of the ANP's guidance.
I rarely visit my GP Practice, but noticed a rolling Powerpoint presentation on a TV screen in Reception, providing clear, helpful advice on the process relating to various areas, eg, MSK, Fit Notes, Pregnancy, the Appointment itself, Rheumatoid Arthritis etc.
What a brilliant way to free up the GP's time to deal with complex/urgent cases, and provide a speedy service to patients!!
