"Ongoing risk for fall to cause injury"

About: Ards Hospital

(as a service user),

There is a broken cement bollard separating two areas of car park at Lough House. I was crossing between the two car parks and fell over the broken bollard resulting in a head injury and fractured arm and a significant time spent in ED UHD. The incident has been reported to the Trust but one week later, the same bollard is still there causing an ongoing potential risk to patients.

Dear foxtrotsj94,

At the outset, may I say how sorry I am to learn of your experience while visiting the Ards Hospital site. I also wish you a full and speedy recovery from your injuries.

I would like to thank you for bringing your issue to our attention and providing us with the opportunity to address your concerns.

The delay for the removal of the defective concrete parking bollard was due to the information that the Trusts Estates Services Department had received initially about the item that caused the incident. When the additional detail was received the defective item was removed from site immediately.

I hope this response has addressed the issues that you have raised. However, if you have any remaining queries please contact the Trusts Complaints Department.

Thank you,

Ryan Conlan

Assistant Director of Estate Services
