"3 hour wait..."

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Ambulatory Care- Surgical

(as a service user),

I know i have a wound that needs extra care and i usually get that from all concerned. I have been treated more than fair for a year and a half until my last visit to the Ambulatory ward when i was made to wait for 3 hours...

I feel annoyed that the hospital finds this acceptable when every other  appointment took 20 to 30mins..!

Dear Crash,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Care Opinion. We really appreciate your valuable feedback. I am sorry that you had such a long wait and as you have referred to this is not the norm for our clinic.

I will feedback to the staff of Surgical Ambulatory to ensure clear explanations are given to patients when there are delays.

Wishing you good health,

Thank you for the reply

I was told that my appointment had not gone through, I was told that I had to wait for the TVNS nurse, I was told that no bandages were kept in that ward as they would all be thrown out if the patient did not turn up - you do not need to be a medical expert to know that unopened equipment isn't thrown out.

I was then told that a staff member was going from one end of the hospital to the other end to collect equipment and that was going to take at least an hour... this person never showed up, and when the eventual nurse that changed the bandages went to collect equipment they were back within 15mins!

That nurse had been told I was using another system so turned up with the wrong equipment and bandages so she had to go get said equipment. That nurse had also been misinformed by the doctor, who was meant to be caring for me, but only wasted my time, the time of the person who drove me to hospital, and the nursing staff. The ward was empty that day, there was only one other patient.

I made a complaint but they would not address many of these issues.

I felt like a pet that was told to go and sit down and wait.

3 hours wait is a disgrace, the failures in communication on top of that just finished me off, I have been in and out of this ward for over 18 months and have always been treated with respect and dignity and one bad experience has ruined that.

Something needs to be done. My appointment was arranged and there was absolutely no reason for a 3 hour wait.
