My dad’s medication was changed around 6 weeks ago treating high blood pressure and fluid retention. My dad’s health deteriorated, he lost his appetite, energy levels and within 3 weeks couldn’t keep anything down, not even sips of water. Constantly sick. The weight has been dropping off him. He managed to get a doctor's appointment and saw the nurse and was referred straight to A&E.
My dad waited for 9 hours, in and out triage, and finally whilst we waited in the waiting room the doctor came out and said everything was fine go home. I said he’s not fine, was told it would be referred back to GP. Heard nothing, managed to get my dad to see a nurse again (thought it was another doctor's appointment). The nurse looked at my dad’s blood results from A&E and said he shouldn’t have been let go, the notes indicated it was as if he discharged himself. I said that was not the case.
He was referred back to A&E and I met him there after leaving work as I’m extremely worried. My dad was called through for the second time and I was told I couldn’t go with him. He is so ill and I wasn’t allowed, despite him being in a room on his own, when asking why he was discharged on his last visit I was told to contact patient affairs.
When asking what the plan was for my dad, I was told he would be taken off meds and drip and monitored. I asked if that would be on a ward, and was told 40 hours for a bed, so I asked if he would stay in triage alone. Was told I can either go sit in the car park or go home. I said it was ridiculous and I was told to not voice my opinions with the people trying to help my dad.
The lack of empathy and understanding I experienced was disgusting, I feel like I’m watching my dad fade away and no one cares or was even bothered.
