"Telephone appointment letters"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Outpatients Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Theatres

(as the patient),

If possible, I think it would be useful to the repients of such letters as Surgery Service future telephone appointments if their phone number that NHS RDUH intended to use was included, ie if recipient has several mobile phone numbers or whatever, they know which number will beused to contact them.

If this is deemed to be a good idea, it might be relevant to a wider selection of letters.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately, it isn't possible for us to populate letters with the phone numbers we will contact patients on for telephone appointments, and we would not be able to guarantee that the number we chose would be preferable for the patient.

Patients can speak to our admin teams when they receive an appointment to tell them which number they would prefer to be contacted on, and it will show in our patient record system with a star next to the phone number. Alternatively, patients signed up to My Care, our patient portal app, can choose a preferred number under the Communication Preferences tab.

When conducting telephone appointments, we would also expect clinicians to try all listed phone numbers if the patient does not respond to give the best chance of being able to hold the appointment.

Best wishes,

Tom Roberts

Head of Outpatients, Eastern Services
