I went with my mum to the Out of Hours as her blood pressure was 213/135
There was no treatment, which was surprising as this is what I believe to be a hypertensive crisis. It can lead to a heart attack, stroke or other severe complications. Yes, we know that BP can fluctuate according to age etc but there was no advice apart from if it gets worse call 999!! What is worse than that? death? I felt there was complacency from the doctor and we left feeling very anxious. We were advised that the doctor would inform my mum's GP.
Surely a little compassion should have been the norm? A little reassurance? A bit of a plan going forward and advice to lower BP? It was a total waste of time. Patients are not experts and become anxious at this which itself increases BP, and the lack of information and care was astounding.
"A lack of information and care"
