I was identified as having possible early stage glaucoma by my optician in 2023 and have been attending King’s on an annual basis for routine tests.
Historically my workplace BUPA scheme has met the cost of these tests, performed by the same practitioner at the same facility. This year however I am told that I am liable to pay the amount in full since the practice is no longer a BUPA recognised facility.
Whilst I understand that the list of recognised facilities is subject to change, I am extremely disappointed that on arriving at the clinic and completing the paperwork in which I stated BUPA was to meet the cost of my treatment, at no point was I told that the facility no longer partnered with BUPA. Indeed my consultant even articulated that despite what BUPA may claim, King’s were/are covered by them whilst they were in the process of assessing me!
Needless to say BUPA are adamant that I remain liable for a bill totalling several hundred pounds which could have easily avoided had the facts been presented to me by the hospital.
The situation is causing considerable distress as I neither know who is right nor how this can be resolved.
"Costly misinformation"
