"Lack of communication and compassion"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Short Stay Medical Ward (Ward 46)

(as a relative),

My partner was admitted to Ward 46 recently with acute abdominal pain. He has been given medication + food: the basics. Unfortunately it would be  exaggerating to call it care.

Disorganisation, lack of communication and lack of compassion throughout his 3-day stay on the ward were very disappointing, as previous stays in other parts of the hospital have been exemplary.

I have always held the NHS and the Glasgow Royal Infirmary in the highest esteem but to be virtually dismissed from the ward as just another "bed-occupier" was upsetting and daunting.

Staffing pressures and high turnover of patients in the ward may have been responsible for this overall lack of care but there would appear to have been plenty of time for all staff to socialise on duty.

It is with regret that I submit this opinion, but as an ex-employee of the NHS, I hope that measures are taken to improve the normally high standards demonstrated by the service.
