My partner recently came home and said he felt ill and his hand wasn't working properly. I called my daughter, we went to Worcester A&E.
Following many tests we were told he had had a stroke and to return next day for more. At the end of the 2nd day we returned home as it was thought he would be OK overnight and would sleep downstairs , but in going to the downstairs toilet about 5 am he fell and was unable to get up, being in quite a small space.
I called 999, an ambulance arrived and from calls made by the crew the Community Stroke Team arrived within a couple of hours and set the wheels in motion for rehab and coping at home.
For 10 weeks we have had almost daily visits by physios and rehab assistants, in the early days to oversee washing and to come downstairs mornings, and upstairs to bed in the evening and doing exercises. Latterly the focus has been on walking to gain mobility and I'm pleased to say my partner is doing really well.
We both feel very lucky here in Pershore to have had such a lovely Stroke team to help us. Without exception everyone has been so empathetic, caring, encouraging and supportive and as my partner has been signed off it's a bit sad we won't be seeing them on a daily basis now.
However, a big thank you needs to be spread around to say how grateful we are to the team, all doing a fantastic service.
