"Absolutely disgusted with the way my mum was treated"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a relative),

My mum was admitted to Wishaw General and moved to the MAU department. I am very sad to say the care that my mum received on this ward was absolutely disgusting.

My mum was in a room with 3 other women and she was washed with the same water that all the other women were washed in, this upset my mum who was very ill,  this is not acceptable by any means and put all the women in that room at a huge risk of infection.

There was a lovely staff member who was a pleasure to deal with, however I cannot say that for the others that were on duty in that room. They are all busy and I understand that but the care and compassion should be given to the patients at all times not keep being fobbed off saying every time they came in give me 2 minutes, to which the 2 minutes never happened.

I was in the ward visiting my mum 1 evening,  I said to a senior member of staff the way some staff spoke to the patients was not acceptable.

My son bought my mum a bottle of juice before we left and in the morning she was asking for this bottle of juice but somebody had obviously taken it as my mum hadn’t drunk it and there was no trace of this bottle of juice!!!!

The best part of my mum’s stay at MAU was on the day when she was told she was getting moved to ward 4.

Sorry to leave a bad review but I am absolutely disgusted with the way my mum was treated.

Dear polarisxn56

Thank you for getting in touch and I am sorry to hear that your mum required admission to hospital and also for the issues that your mum encountered within our Medical Receiving Unit here at University Hospital Wishaw.

What you have described is not of the standard that I would expect and therefore I will ensure that your comments are fed back to the clinical area, so that we can review your mums experience and ensure that staff take learning and appropriate action.

I indeed hope your mum’s health is improving and have no doubt that this is a worrying time for you and your family.

Best wishes

Faith
