"They don't get enough thanks for what they do every day"

About: St John's Hospital / General Medicine

(as the patient),

I was in hospital for almost 9 months. I went into hospital with a broken hip and was transferred from St John’s A&E to the Royal Infirmary to have an operation. I was there for about 5 weeks and then I was transferred back to ward 8 in St John’s, had lots of tests and I have been diagnosed with MS, which affected my mobility. So the reason why I was in hospital so long was due to waiting on the council to rehouse me, but with the help of my local councillor and MP and housing association I’m now in a home that is adaptable to my medical needs.

I would like to thank all the NHS staff, that’s the CSW’s, nurses, physio, domestic staff, in ward 8 and ward 18, you were all amazing and you made my time in hospital a lot easier. We had lots of laughter and there was tears, and they were always there when I was so low and brought me back up again, no one ever judged me. I feel they don’t get enough thanks for what they do everyday, so I just want to say to each and everyone of you ‘’May you be proud of the work you do, the person you are, and the difference you make’’ and once again thank you to ward 8 and ward 18.

Dear Patriciak618

Thank you so much for sharing your story with us on Care Opinion and providing us with feedback on your experience. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to this.

I’m sorry to hear of your MS diagnosis, and that you had to stay in hospital for 9 months while you waited for suitable accommodation to be found. It was really lovely to read how all the staff were able to make this time a bit easier for you, through their amazing care and support. I will make sure your kind comments are shared with them.

I’m so pleased you were found a suitable home and hope you are settling in well.

Thank you again and take care.

Louise

Dear Patriciak618 thank you so much for taking the time to write in with such positive comments re the staff on the STJ site particularly wards 8 and 18. I appreciate that whilst in hospital it can be difficult and challenging and from your comments I can see that you have not only had to deal with recovery but a new diagnosis as well as waiting for a home that is suitable to your needs. I do hope you are continuing to improve and enjoying your new home. I will forward on your comments to the relevant staff involved in your care. Thanking you again.

Best wishes

Agnes Ritchie
