"Absolutely every member of staff went above and beyond"

About: Medicine for the Elderly

(as a relative),

My Mum was admitted to Ward 2 at Arbroath Infirmary for end of life care following a short stay in Ninewells Hospital where my Mum had a stroke and a heart attack.

The care and support from Fiona and her team to both my Mum and to us as a family was truly exceptional. The staff made a heartbreaking event for us just that bit easier, through the compassion and professionalism shown by the team in Ward 2.

Absolutely every member of staff went above and beyond. The domestic staff, trained nurses and health care assistants, all showed respect and dignity to both my mum and the family.

There are no words to describe how very grateful we are to Fiona and all of the staff in Ward 2 for the exemplary care.

Every one was amazing but we must mention Adrian who on arrival, made us feel so welcome on the ward and was so attentive to us all. Dawn, who showed such compassion and ‘administered’ very welcomed hugs and also Emma and Charlie who were on night duty and looked after me and my sister, ensuring we were comfy, as well as my Mum. Thank you to you all ❤️

Hi Nicky789, my name is Shona and I work within Angus Health & Social Care’s Improvement & Development Service. I was so touched to read your story, thank you for sharing. It must have been difficult to do this at such a heart-breaking time for you and your family. Getting this lovely feedback from you is invaluable to our services so they can be reassured they are doing the best for families at such times. I am so glad you felt well looked after and comforted by everyone. Thank you for mentioning all the staff in ward 2 at Arbroath Infirmary, we will ensure they all get to read your story and someone from the ward will also respond in due course. Thank you too for specifically mentioning Fiona, Adrian, Dawn and Emma & Charlie from nightshift as I say it will be reassuring for them to know they helped you. I wish you and your family well and hope you find comfort in your memories of Mum.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Thank you for your kindness in taking time to share your feedback at this sad time.

Family feedback directly influences & re-enforces our approach to end of life care here - to the person-centered care we offer our patients & importantly how we support families facing loss.

As I discussed with you ... it's such a privilege as nurses to be involved during what we know to be a terribly sad yet somehow special time. We truly understand how important the time you had with your Mum was as she approached the end of her life - we absolutely want to get this care right.

In leading the team, I was deeply moved to hear you & your sister discuss the compassion, dignified & respectful care & professional support you & your family experienced as we cared for your Mum in her last days of life. I’m so pleased to know it made a difference ... the team do indeed often go the extra mile because it’s important & it matters.

I have shared your feedback with the individual staff named & also all of the nursing team including the domestic support team too. I know it means a great deal to them all to hear how their care giving was valued by you & your family. Many of the team commented on how close & loving you all were as a family with your Mum & Dad, that love & genuine compassion for each other’s needs was lovely for us to experience too.

Thank you for sharing you experience of care via Care Opinion.
