"Maternity triage at ERI"

About: Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France / Maternity care

(as a service user),

Visited maternity triage at ERI, the staff were very attentive and looked after me well. However, this can be a very distressing time for some as I’m sure is understandable. There were multiple people sitting on mobile devices at what felt like top volume. No earphones and no consideration for what some of the ladies may be going through. Lying across sofas and shouting at each other isn’t relaxing for anyone.

I was shocked on leaving the department to see a number of domestic staff standing outside next to the pay machine smoking. I am aware this is a smoke free hospital and was very saddened to see NHS staff smoking next to maternity where pregnant mothers and new mothers HAVE to walk through 2nd hand smoke.
