"Gynaecology care"

About: Royal Hallamshire Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was scheduled for a diagnostic laparoscopy at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield to look for endometriosis after 5 years of saying I’ve been in pain following a cancer diagnosis in 2019 -  it has been established that the cancer isn’t the cause of my pain as I have the all clear so my oncologist referred me finally for explorative surgery for endometriosis.

I have psyched myself up for this operation to be kept waiting for 10 hours to be told it has been cancelled at the last minute and will be re scheduled, when discussing that I cannot within the next 4 weeks as will be on holiday in 2 weeks for a fortnight the consultant advised to focus on getting pregnant on holiday! What an absolutely disgusting and insensitive thing to say to a patient who is struggling to conceive first of all, secondly had a miscarriage earlier this year, and to top it off did not tell me they were planning on putting a coil into me whilst operating I had to ask and decline!

The consultant was yawning profusely whilst speaking to me whilst I’m sat crying my eyes out so deflated. My experience of women's gynae care in Sheffield has been abysmal, and I feel it needs to change desperately!

I don't think gynaecologists should be allowed to practise if they cannot show empathy to the patient in front of them!
