"They have empowered me to live my best life"

About: Addiction services / Community Alcohol and Drugs Services

(as a service user),

I was referred to the Community Addiction Team by my GP due to drinking too much that it was impacting on my life. I attended Nuala at the SWAH Community Addiction Team, where I believe my journey to recovery really began. She pointed me in the right direction and for the first time in my life I was really willing to listen and take these on board. Given my chequered history I have been here many times before but now I knew I was truly ready to embrace recovery. I wanted it for ME!

I worked with Nuala for approx. 6 months and was referred to Martina to complete CBT work. I have to say this was the missing piece of my jigsaw, this complemented everything that I was searching for for years.

I have now abstained from alcohol for 13 months - when people ask me how? I advise them how I worked on myself along with the two girls and I am now the happiest I have ever been - as I said I have been through those doors many times before but this is actually the first time I was actually honest - I held nothing back. I was searching for my life to be better and to get off them merry go rounds of drinking and depression.

I would urge anyone thinking about doing something about your substance use - get help do it for you. I am a proud man today and I'm living a happy and sober life with my wife and kids who all are benefitting from the work that I completed with Nuala and Martina at The community addiction Team SWAH.

I thank you ladies for your help, understanding, advice and the non judgemental attitude you had with me and also for believing in me. You have empowered me to live my best life. I thank you both.
