"Accessing services as an Autistic person"

About: New Stobhill Hospital / Gynaecology Clinic

(as a service user),

I am currently under the care of a gynaecologist at Stobhill. While the gynaecologist has been fantastic, very understanding and supportive of my needs, I have experienced huge difficulties with their secretary. I have been refused accommodations, talked to in an aggressive manner, had my barriers and communication differences denied and been refused communication.

The secretary refused to listen when I tried to explain my communication differences, and accused me of implying things I hadn't said as they did not understand my direct autistic communication.

This has created huge anxiety for me at what is already a very worrying time. It has meant I have been unable to have conversations and ask questions, and am concerned that this may make my vital surgery impossible. It has a had a significant negative impact on my mental health.
