"Our family's member's recent stay"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Medical High Dependency

(as a relative),

Our family member recently had a stay at Medical HDU in Ninewells Hospital. The care they received from both medical and nursing staff was excellent.

Throughout their stay, we felt well informed and involved in their care. Nursing and medical staff delivered compassionate and true person centred care at all times. Their clinical knowledge, expertise and professionalism was evident. We were very impressed and reassured that staff would actively seek family members out to provide us with an update at every opportunity and we thank them for their kindness, compassion and care.

Our only negative from this experience was that we were not informed when our family member  was moved ward overnight. Whilst we appreciate not being told at the time (overnight), this led to moments of worry when turning up to the ward the following day to  find they were not there. A simple telephone contact that morning (and night shift passing this on to day shift) would have kept us informed and saved worry.

Dear Leopr89,

Firstly I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide kind feedback on your family member's care and treatment whilst in MHDU. I would however like to sincerely apologise on behalf of my nursing team for any distress which we may have caused you. I have shared your experience with the nursing team at our safety briefs reiterating the importance of good communication with families to prevent unnecessary distress. As a result of your experience we have reviewed our practice and we have amended our safety handover brief to prevent this happening in the future.
