"Several hour wait on hard plastic chairs"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was recently in a&e and it took several hours to be seen. I saw the waiting room clear over and over while I continue to wait to be seen despite advising about pain and staff about my circumstances which didn’t get passed on, so I continued my several hour wait on the hard plastic seats which aren’t suitable for anyone who has just given birth, frail, elderly or anyone who is left for hours on end without care!

Police officers brought people in with minor injuries and are prioritised over the others who have waited hours with more significant concerns! Do the a&e department understand prioritising? Clearly not!

It felt like staff spent more time talking to other members of staff than providing care which could reduce wait times!

You could come in with your head hanging off blood gushing and be left on a hard plastic chair!

Trauma informed practice, they don’t know the meaning of the word!

Laughable really. No person centred care and a feeling of hopelessness that no one care!

Dear Who knows

I am sorry to hear that you required to attend the Emergency Department here at University Hospital Wishaw. I fully appreciate that you are concerned about your experience and I can assure you that we take all concerns from our patients and relatives very seriously in order to improve our services, amidst the current pressures the Emergency services are under. I would like to provide you with an assurance that all patients are seen within clinical priority and there are 3 different departments that are accessed by patients in the waiting room and therefore someone being seen before you will only be a direct result of their clinical priority or the department in which they are waiting to be seen.

We are reviewing the seating within the ED waiting room as we appreciate that these do not provide comfortable seating for a lengthy time period, albeit I wish to be honest in that there are no immediate plans. We will continue to look at this with the appropriate teams

I hope you are feeling better

Best wishes

Faith
