"I am greatly reassured and feel so supported"

About: Ninewells Hospital / Intensive Care Unit

(as a service user),

I presented at A&E with acute respiratory issues.  I was quickly admitted to the Intensive Care Unit were I was intubated as I was so poorly.  For a while, I was the most seriously ill patient in Dundee and came very close to death (I'm only in my 50s!) Long story short, the ICU Team were fabulous and saved my life.

I was heavily sedated and placed into a comatose state/life support  so sadly can't remember the staff but I am so very grateful to them- they saved my life.  My friends/family that were at my bedside when I was close to death, have spoken so highly about the nurses and doctors that cover ICU- they tried everything to keep me alive and I am here to tell the tale.

In addition to the serious stuff, I am reliably informed that some of the nurses tidied me up hair wise etc- (thank you Lesley!) - Not only did they save my life, they helped me retain my dignity while I was so vulnerable- any woman will understand how grateful I am for this <3

I can't convey how grateful I am to these clinicians- I am so humbled to have had their dedicated care and cannot find fault.

Emma took an ICU shift and looked after me and thereafter became my Intensive Care Recovery Nurse and I cannot praise her highly enough.  She has been the ultimate professional, while remaining so compassionate and patient with me.  I've been left with some mobility, cognitive and speech issues, had very bad delirium upon life support being removed, and she has been amazing.   She has patiently explained to me why I have these after effects stay and I am greatly reassured and feel so supported- my GP's surgery has been less than effective since my return home so thank goodness for Emma.

There is nothing she could have done better to improve the service she has provided thus far and I have complete confidence I am in the right hands.

Thank you so much Emma- you are an asset to NHS Tayside - I honestly cannot find fault and am so very grateful for having your support :)
