(as a parent/guardian),

After a very tough start to life our daughter has been left with global developmental delays and will have life-long struggles to do even the simplest tasks that most people take for granted. As a family we struggled with coming to terms with the reality of our situation and found it difficult at times to even leave the house. With lots of input from various members of our community nursing team and after speaking with Gillian our physiotherapist and Kirsty from speech and language therapy we were invited along to a “theratots” group in Fairhill Lifestyles Centre. Immediately it was obvious that our daughter absolutely loved the group and seeing her doing “normal” baby things was amazing. It was also reassuring to meet other families who have had a similarly tough time but are further along in their journey and are learning to adapt to their similar situations and show us that even though things won’t be how we’d imagined it would be before our daughter was born it doesn’t mean we have to limit ourselves to what we do from now on.

It also greatly helped that while this class was a form of therapy for our daughter it took place outwith a hospital setting. We have had so many upsetting times in hospitals that the community centre setting made it feel like it was just a baby activity class and not another medical appointment.

Kirsty and her team are fantastic and we look forward to hopefully attending the next block of classes.

Dear saturnjc85

Many thanks for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Theratots Group. Feedback always helps us to plan and shape our service moving forward.

I am so glad the group has been helpful during very challenging times for you and your family and that your daughter enjoyed it so much.

I have passed on your feedback to all clinicians involved in the group and they were delighted

Kind regards

Anne McKenna

Can I please thank you for sharing your experience of the Theratots group. Your heartfelt honest feedback has been shared with all of the staff involved and it acts a a reminder of the positive impact we can have working alongside families to support their child's development.

Thank you for noting the difference that it made for you to attend a non health care setting, and for highlighting the benefit you felt from meeting parents in a similar situation to yourself. I am delighted to hear that you feel more able to expand the activities that you do with your daughter and that you feel able to explore activities that perhaps you would not have considered possible earlier in your journey.

Thank you again for sharing your story.

Dear saturnjc85

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience in the “theratots” group in Fairhill Lifestyles Centre. It was lovely to read how much your daughter enjoys the group. Seeing her happy and watching her doing “normal” baby things must have been so positive to observe. A lot of families tell us they find it helpful to meet other parents who are in a similar situation. Learning together and supporting one another sounds like it has been a very important part of your experience in theratots.

It is really valuable for us to hear that having the group out with a hospital setting was an important part of your experience. This will help us to plan and shape our service moving forward.

Your feedback has been shared with all of the staff involved in supporting families at the theratots group. Thanks again for taking the time to share your story with us, best wishes to you and your family,

Lucy Scott Muir
