I went to Antrim Area Hospital at in the morning to start an induction of labour with a Foley balloon catheter. Myself and Fiancé were both very anxious, as I am a first time Mum. When I found the correct place I entered the room apprehensively but after some 15 minutes I began to settle myself a little more thanks to the lovely midwife who made me feel relaxed and comfortable. She monitored my heart rate and my baby’s. Although they were changing to a new encompass digital system which presented a few teething problems with other staff coming in and out of the room the midwife was still very attentive to my needs and concerns.
I loved that the procedure was talked through and thoroughly explained, this made me feel safe. The procedure itself wasn’t as bad as what I thought it would have been. This was down to the lovely midwife who kept me informed and provided a little humour through the uncomfortable procedure. I felt well looked after. She took the time with me and my fiancé to answer any questions about the induction process and the upcoming labour. This was amazing to get such individualised support and discussion about labour from a very experienced midwife which I felt had been lacking in my pregnancy journey during antenatal appointments and classes offered. She most definitely give us reassurance and I left much calmer, happier and excited to give birth.
