After a third episode of mental illness my psychiatrist advised me with the diagnosis that I would probably have to live with a mild condition.
During my treatment she had been kind considerate and encouraging building up my confidence and acknowledging my success in business and family life.
She suggested that as I had previously gone on holiday on my own in the past to try again but I did not have the confidence however due to her help and advice I finally took the plunge and arranged 10 day holiday advising my family would contact them every day.
My psychiatrist knew I studied Spanish and had loved going to Spain to talk in past
On journey I was unbelievably nervous and anxious near to panicking at times.
On arrival still nervous I began speaking my limited Spanish with all staff who encouraged me and discovered my knowledge of the language was much better than I realised.
Each day became easier to relax and I grew more confident when time came to leave I did not want to go.
On my return my best friend of 35 years asked me what had happened after several years my old self was back he was amazed at the difference.
That was in April this year since when I have been abroad twice and on holiday in Scotland and on my own and planning 3 trips abroad on my own next year.
Over the years my psychiatrist’s patience and encouragement and her faith in me was such she knew I could do it and provided that gentle push needed that’s what I call an expert.
I sent postcards to her and staff in thanks to all staff and will continue to do so.
