I recently attended for a complex coil removal with Dr Gleser. I was very anxious about it all and told her this.
As soon as I did she immediately went through the procedure with me and put me at ease. She offered anaesthetic if I needed it and reassured me that I would be fine and that I was in control the whole time. I told her that my previous experience of getting a coil inserted had not been great and she asked about it and again reassured me.
She was extremely patient, empathetic and worked in a trauma informed way. I cannot tell you how much I appreciated this. My anxiety was still there during my appointment but it was at a minimum thanks to her.
The nurse who was in the room with us held my hand during the appointment and spoke to me the whole time which took my mind off of what the Dr was doing. They both asked me questions about my daughter and granddaughter and my job which kept me calm. I did have some pain (which made me swear) and the Dr again offered anaesthetic which I accepted.
This made things a lot less painful and helped me to relax.
Although the Dr was unable to remove my coil, she tried for a long time to remove it before having to stop. She explained the reasons not only verbally but visually to me which made things easier to understand.
The Dr was hilarious when I told her I hadn’t shaved my legs and then delivered the bad news to the nurse when she came in. Both joked with me and I was laughing along with them which also helped to calm me down.
I found out that I have a fibroid which the Dr told me was detected in a scan, but I was never told. She explained all of this to me also and said she would send me some information about it. I was not expecting her to send me a lovely text message telling me it was lovely to meet me and she hoped my cramping had calmed down, with the information attached.
This Dr is the kindest, friendliest and most empathetic doctor I have met. She eased my anxiety and kept me calm which made things so much easier for me. She may think that it is all part of the job, but she helped me more than she knows, along with the lovely nurse.
She is a great example of trauma informed and person-centred and whilst completely professional, her funny personality was evident and so appreciated!
Thank you so much Dr Gleser, it was lovely to meet you, your kindness will return to you tenfold I am sure of it.
