"Gallbladder surgery"

I just want to post details about my experience with gallbladder issues in recent months.

Back in August I had reason to visit Hairmyers hospital due to severe stomach pains, eventually I was admitted and spent a week on antibiotics and pain relief, however they said they could not operate due to the infection that was present. I was released with a further dose of antibiotics and hopefully I would be called in due course for the operation to remove my gallbladder.

Then in September 24 the same thing happened and again I basically went through the exact same process although this time around it was found that I had a perforated gallbladder that I only found out on reading my discharge paperwork. So it was antibiotics in hospital for a week and for a further week at home with hopefully a planned operation to take place.

Sorry to say, late October the exact same thing happened and again I was admitted however this time it felt a lot worse and indeed painful.  There was much debate this time around about how I should be treated, sent home or admitted, the hospital to be fair at this point was very busy and no doubt under pressure for beds.

With the help/ guidance of a number of doctors/ consultants I was eventually allocated a place, Demi who was helping to look after me at this point was immensely supportive.

Now I will keep this part short and simply stick to the key parts, I was admitted on the Sunday and had all the usual tests carried out however on the Tuesday I was in real pain and a MRI was urgently arranged. Very shortly after that Mr Brown came to explain that an emergency operation was required. That chat was very quickly followed by Dr Di Rollo and Mr Khan who took time to give me all the facts about the situation, honestly they could have not been more comforting in the manner the facts were put over. Bottom line was I had to have the operation.

So the operation was a success thankfully and even better it was done by key hole surgery. From this point on Mr Khan treated me like royalty honestly, I think he came to check on me at every turn, even when basic checks were being carried out and I cannot thank him and indeed the wider team enough.

I owe a massive thanks for the support that I got prior to the operation and the care straight after it in what I am sure were unusual circumstances I.e. my gallbladder infection and the being perforated.

There are so many people I would like to thank over and above those named but trust me over 3 months there are so many and I have almost turned this into a book. Please thank all the staff and doctors from ward 5, 13 and lastly HDU.
