"Overworked nursing staff - diabolical patient food"

About: Watford General Hospital

This review is about extremely poor catering at the hospital.

My sister was admitted to the hospital following a fall resulting in a broken hip. The medical care has been of a high standard and professionally delivered in a timely manner. However. It is clear to see that the majority of nursing staff appear overworked, often having to rush and having little time with patients, apart from what is clinically necessary.

The least good experience has been the poor standard of food offered to patients. There seems to be limited choice and only preset options. The food often appears unappetising and presented in an appealing manner. The quality of food provided is frequently poor and not very flavoursome, with 'hot food' dishes being just warm when served. This, from personal observation, results in a great deal of food being uneaten and wasted.

I have no knowledge of how or where food in this hospital is prepared but have the impression that it probably provided by a central kitchen which is not located in the hospital.

I firmly believe that patients recover more speedily when receiving a choice of good quality, well prepared and presented food. Sadly, this is an area in which Watford General Hospital is not, to my mind, performing very well.
