I went from being very physically active to not in a short period of time. I contracted covid December 2023 and from that moment on my health deteriorated daily to the point where I was shuffling along instead of walking.
Then on the in April I had a huge heart attack in Doncaster A and E, I was taken to Sheffield where a stent was fitted-it turned out that my main artery in my heart was blocked with a blood clot from top to bottom. I’m now living with the consequences which are heart failure, kidney failure, liver damage etc.
Fortunately the Doncaster aftercare team are excellent, it started with heart nurses making visits and reassuring me as to the future and then I went on to exercise classes at dearne valley leisure centre, at the first class I attended I could barely stand up properly but by the end of the 12 week course I was far better but still struggling with breathing difficulties and general fitness.
I then contacted the RDaSH long Covid services and got accepted to the Doncaster long covid clinic at St John’s information centre and the Tickhill rd hospital site. My treatment and care is ongoing and although my health is only getting better extremely slowly I’m quite certain that without the care and attention given to me by the long Covid team I’d still be sat at home deteriorating slowly- my current fitness is a fraction of what it was but its thanks to the Doncaster team that I’ve got options to improve my heath however slowly that’s happening.
