"I felt listened to, supported and warmth from everyone"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / Community Midwifery Unit

(as the patient),

I planned to have my birth in Arbroath Infirmary. My waters broke at 4am. I tried to phone Arbroath but no one was answering. I phoned 111 and found out all the midwives were needed in Ninewells and not enough staff to have in Arbroath. I was advised to go to Ninewells or wait until the day shift starts in Arbroath. With my waters already broken, this was a bit stressful what decision to make. Luckily, we made it to Arbroath when day shift started at 7.30am.

They were all very kind and helpful. The midwives were a great support and you can see the teamwork between them is fabulous.

I felt listened to, supported and warmth from everyone and appreciate this so much as this was my first baby.

Living in Montrose, I was so glad that I was able to give birth in Arbroath and a water birth. Both things I really hoped for.

It is great to have this in Angus as Ninewells is further away and more to navigate.

Dear Pyxiscq53

I wish to congratulate you and your family on the birth of your beautiful new baby, I hope you are all settling in well at home and enjoying the exciting experiences introducing a newborn baby into the family brings.

I wish to thank you for taking the time to share your birth experience, it is invaluable to us as a service to understand how women would wish their maternity care to be delivered and having the available birth place choices across Tayside is something we are really proud to be able to offer, as we recognise the significance of midwifery led care, ensuring women receive the safest care provision when they experience non complex pregnancies. I am delighted your birth experience was what you had hoped for and you were supported to meet your individual wishes.

I am sorry overnight there was not available midwifery support available in Angus and I can appreciate the worry this would have created, when you were in labour. We are supporting lots of work in the background to ensure our CMUs are available for women 24/7 and I am so pleased you could birth in the unit a few hours after your original call.

I am sorry the phoneline was also ringing out in Arbroath and did not automatically redirect the call to maternity triage in Ninewells, I will share this with the SCM to support review and learning within the team.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback today

I wish you and your family all the very best

Kindest regards

Steph Gardiner
