Was playing rugby and turned to get the ball, my body turned and my leg didn't I ended up dislocating my knee and tearing three ligaments
At the time it was 10/10 pain. I had to get lifted off the pitch. The next day there was no pain but I knew something was wrong. Emotionally I wasn't coping well. This had happened before the birth of my daughter which added to the stress. I had went for surgery and a short time after my daughter was born. I went to my parents for recovery as they live in a bungalow and my wife went to her parents. I slipped into depression and self blaming I was smoking heavily and heading for a self-destructive path. I went to physio every week and after 6 weeks I was able to start walking. When I was able to fully walk I decided to go back home with my wife and daughter. I still wasn't fully back mentally but I knew being at home would help. During recovery I developed clots in both my lungs I'm convinced this was from the smoking but can't be sure, I have since given up. Being able to go to physio and see my recovery through to being able to walk again has helped me. All of the staff along this journey have been fantastic and have helped me to no end. It's amazing when I look back and have seen how far I've gotten and it wouldn't have been for everyone propping me up when I needed it most. Regarding the depression I am seeing a light at the end of the tunnel I just need to remember not to get complacent. I owe so much thanks to everyone who has helped me to get back to as normal as normal can be.
