While driving home on the motorway following a holiday to Scotland, I became aware that I was having trouble seeing the brake lights of the cars in front. As I was about an hour away from home I lowered my speed and kept a safe distance from traffic in front of me.
As soon as I got home (safely) I made an appointment to see the Boots optician the next day, in Tiverton. After several checks by the optician, I was referred to the main hospital in Exeter. I walked home from the optician and within 30 minutes of returning home I had a phone call from the Exeter eye hospital requesting that I attend the hospital within the hour. A friend drove me in and I was immediately seen by one of the team members, who then referred me to Mark - the Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner. After further tests I was told that I had a tear in my right eye retina, and would be having laser treatment that same afternoon to repair the tear. Amazing!!
Four hours later I was back home in Tiverton having had the damaged retina repaired.
I am so grateful to the whole team who were so caring, polite and very knowledgeable. I recently attended a follow-up appointment which showed the repair to be all fine.
"Urgent referral to the eye hospital"
