"Lack of privacy and space"

About: Paediatrics / Oak Ward

(as a parent/guardian),

We're struggling in here, unhappy as  we are squeezed in here, so many beds, and people, no privacy, no space to move anywhere, no place to sit next to your sick child, really poorly condition.

Hi betags57

I'm so sorry to hear that your experience on the Children's unit has not been good.

It would be really good to get some additional information about your stay and what we can do to improve our service for future patients and their families. If you would like to email me angela.giles@somersetft.nhs.uk we could arrange a convenient time to talk through your concerns and gather additional feedback.

Thank you once again for taking the time to write to us, I look forward to speaking to you.

Kind Regards

Angela Giles

Hi betags57

I wanted to send a quick message and update you on things we have been working on within the Children's unit over the last month, which will hopefully make things easier in the future for Children/Young People and their families staying with us.

We recognise that when the unit is busy that the bays can feel like they have lot of people in them and this can be tricky when you are needing to have personal conversations with medical staff. We have reminded staff of the importance of offering families a space away from the bay to be able to talk openly and in confidence.

We have recently taken delivery of some new parent beds which should free up more chairs available in each bay.

We are asking, where possible each family to limit visitors to 2 per patient whilst the unit is so busy in the hope that it makes the bay feel less busy.

We always strive to provide the best possible care to patients and their families, and I'm so sorry that your experience was not good.

Thank you once again for taking the time to write to us, we really do appreciate all feedback

Kind Regards

Angela Giles
