"Team treating my father"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Southern Sector

(as a relative),

My father needed IV antibiotics for a UTI and this was given by the hospital home care team in Co.Fermanagh.

He was visited 3 times a day by a nurse and followed up by a visit from the doctor. This was for a full week.

Both myself and my father were impressed by the service we were provided with. The fact that an elderly man could stay in his own home and receive the treatment needed, was invaluable.  I personally think this aids the recovery from the sickness when the patient is in their own surroundings.

Every nurse and doctor were pleasant and professional every time they came into our house. Each time a new nurse came, the information from the last visit had been handed over so that nothing was missed.

If we hadn't have been able to avail of this service we would have been in A&E. This would mean lengthy waiting times and shortages of beds. This is all draining on an elderly patient on top of a sickness. We have experienced this before with maybe 7 hr waiting times or more.

On the first visit of the hospital team at our house they had my father assessed and the treatment started in shortly over an hour.

This is a great service and I hope it is continued and receives all necessary funding it needs to provide this level of care. Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for writing and providing a positive response to the service your father and you received from our team. We are delighted to hear that you both felt impressed with the service that was provided to you and that your father was able to remain in his own home, in familiar surroundings and with family near. It definitely is what we aim to do within the team, to keep patients at home when able. Im so glad to hear that you also were kept informed as the treatment period continued.

It was a pleasure to be able to treat your father and to keep him at home.

We hope your father is continuing to improve and we send you the teams best wishes.

Many Thanks

Claire Aiken
