The Urology staff at both NHS Fife's Queen Margaret and Victoria hospitals were very well organised, sympathetic, supportive and helpful right though from initial MRI scan and biopsy at QMH, though the prostatectomy operation and post op' recovery in ward 54 at the Victoria, then the post operation review and BABS. Although I'm still on the journey, it is reassuring to feel that the follow up will be as organised and sympathetic and that help will be at hand if needed.
Being able to attend the Urology Day Treatment appointments etc. at Queen Margarets Hospital rather than the Victoria made travel arrangements much simpler.
The only suggestion I would make is that when discharging patients from Ward 54 the supply of and training with necessary prescribed items be more consolidated. I realise that on the day of my discharge the ward was full and extremely busy but the supply of pads was left without explanation and nearly ignored. The training for the Fragmin injections was very rushed, and into a region not recommended by the manufacturer, so much so that I had to get it re-explained by the nurse at my GP practice. Also a 4 hour wait in a deserted seating area for some of the prescription drugs to arrive could have been avoided.
My sincere thanks to all the staff involved at both hospitals for their helpful, friendly and effective treatment.
I'd also like to thank the staff at the Kirkcaldy Maggie's Centre for their great support and the information they provide.
