"Bad communication"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Gynaecology

(as a service user),

I recently went for a transvaginal ultrasound. Letter arrived from a consultant informing me I would need a biopsy. A letter arrived one month later with a date and time to see a gynaecologist but no reference as to what was going to be done at this appointment.

After deliberating for a few days I rang the gynecologist's secretary to ask the question of what was my appointment for.  I was told it was my biopsy appointment. Nowhere on the letter did it state that it was for a biopsy. No leaflet to tell me what is involved, what pain relief I should take, how I should dress, how long it will take, etc.

For patients comfort and sanity it would be nice to be told in advance what is happening and would stop most of the unwanted phone calls to the secretary who probably has enough to do without having to answer questions that should have been made clear in a simple leaflet or on the appointment letter.

Dear Lindyloo38

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with feedback and I am sorry to hear about your experience.

I have shared your feedback with the gynaecology department and they have advised that normal practice would be that the patient receives a letter which would include all of the points you have raised. However the appointment sent out by the booking team doesn't include specific details and I have asked the team to review this.

I appreciate your feedback which will allow us to review and improve our systems and processes to give patients a better experience.

Kind regards

Liz
