After a middling experience to have a circumcision, the after care was woeful. 4 days after surgery I was back to ask about an issue of the wound healing itself to part of my skin, making things difficult. This was dismissed and the staff seemed to think I was worried about how it looked. I tried to reaffirm it was the healing process and the eventual outcome that I was worried about, not appearance, but this never seemed to sink in. At the same time the staff would tell me I was incorrect about what was happening and that everything appeared fine. They were concerned with a lump of flesh and had an appointment set up for this to be removed. When I turned up for this appointment, nobody had a clue what I was talking about, and after trying to convince them what was happening I left without any procedure taking place.
I saw a different surgeon/consultant to the one who operated on me and he told me that he would have warned me about the issue I was having (I had not been warned about this) and may have done things differently. He also noted that he was concerned with how my penis looked, but that he could "not really comment" as it was down to the original surgeon to decide what was best. By the time I did finally get my follow-up with the original surgeon I was so stressed about the state of my penis that I did not get to ask many questions I needed to, he never mentioned any concerns with the outcome, saying he thought it looked fine.
This despite the fact I cannot achieve a proper erection without bleeding or pain, and my urine flow is much slower than before the operation. I was given a few options, one was to do nothing, or maybe use some ointment (not clear if this was meant to remove the skin lump, stop the bleeding and pain or stop the skin having healed incorrectly). The option I took was the one that hopefully (!) gets me to see a plastic surgeon, who can correct the mess that has been made of me.
I hope to never have to endure another visit to this excuse of a hospital ever again.
"Poor performance and follow up"
