"Dropped by this centre and left without support"

About: Arran Resource Centre

(as the patient),

After being diagnosed with ADHD and spending months on a waiting list to see a psychiatrist, I was referred to this centre and started seeing a specialist who prescribed medication. The medication helped but I needed an adjustment. I waited for the letter with an appointment only to receive it while I was abroad attending to a family issue. When I came back I found the letter but the appointment had already passed.

I phoned the centre immediately and was reassured that another letter would be sent. A month went by with no news so I called again. I had also moved house and needed to advise them. They informed me that I now had to be transferred to another centre due to the address change but my doctor would see me ahead of the transfer, and another letter would be sent. Another month passed and had to phone the centre yet again.

This time I was told that I had been discharged for not attending my initial appointment and that there were no records of me ever contacting the centre. According to them, I had never phoned despite my offer to show my phone records. The conversation was not pleasant at all. The only solution I was given was to go back to my GP and request another referral.

Now I’m back on the waiting list. My GP cannot review or adjust my medication and I’ve been told the average waiting time is a year. I’m really struggling and cannot afford to go private. I understand that system failures can happen but what hurt the most was being accused of dishonesty by the staff. You shouldn't do that to a patient. I’m struggling and I suffered from severe insomnia. I don’t even know if this website is monitored by the centre or anyone at all. My only hope is that this doesn’t happen to anyone else.
